Description:
We made groups of 4. All these groups got a genetic disease, which we had to study and made a presentation about it. Our group got Huntington's disease.
Project:
Concepts:
Protein Synthesis: The process of creating protein. This is in three stages: translation, transcription, and the folding of the polypeptide chain
Transcription: The process of making mRNA, where the RNA polymerase connects to the DNA and splits it, then it copies one of the sides, creating mRNA.
Translation: The process of creating a polypeptide chain. A ribosome connects to the start codon of the mRNA. Anti-codons carry amino acids. These acids are added to a chain until the polypeptide chain is complete
Protein Folding: The process of a polypeptide folding until it is a protein. It first becomes an alpha helix, then a beta sheet, then domain, then finally a protein.
Protein Misfolding: When a protein's amino acid sequence isn't correct, which can lead to genetic diseases such as Huntington's
Codon: Sets of 3 DNA bases used during translation
Anti-Codon: Sets of 3 DNA bases opposite that of a codon
Ribosome: An organelle that is used during translation.
Protein: Macromolecule that is used to perform the functions of the body. Made during protein synthesis and the amino acids and their order change the type of protein.

Reflection:
Positives: This project had many positives, but here are 2. Firstly, I found myself stressing less than previous projects, which may be due to letting others take charge and allowing them to have a chance. Secondly, I felt that I helped raise moral through jokes and other fun activities. I was overall positive and tried to make the experience for my group fun.
Negatives: This project had some negatives. One of such was the lack of initiative. I felt that I could have started a lot sooner and not spent so many days off task, which I can improve by trying to work from day 1. The second point was a lack of efficiency. Group members were sick, not feeling up to it, or just generally tired. I can try to fix this by motivating my group before working and try getting my group excited to work.
