Overpopulation
Solve a World Problem:
We were given a lot of freedom with this project, as long as it solved a world problem and was related to biology. I was able to pick my group, which consisted of Grant, Landon, Nick, and myself. Together we brainstormed some problems facing the world today, until we came across overpopulation. We were all intrigued with this idea and set off. You can see our brainstorming ideas in our slideshow below, but we started with that. Creating vertical farms seemed like the most appealing thing to do, so we went into that. We also did some research on overpopulation and used that information to create a better vertical farm, which is how we concluded that we should place these farms in urban environments so that people that live in big cities can eat and not starve. Below you can see the rest of our slideshow!
Concepts:
There actually weren't many concepts, but there are some that can be listed.
Overpopulation: the condition of having a population so dense as to cause environmental deterioration, an impaired quality of life, or a population crash
Limiting Factors: Limiting factors are things that make it difficult for a population to grow. Our presentation focuses on fixing the limiting factor that is food
Aeroponics: The process of growing plants with a mist filled with nutrients, without using dirt

Reflection:
Positives: We got to pick our groups, which meant that I could be with friends. One positive was my ability to openly talk about any ideas I had with the people in my group. If I wanted to ask a stupid question, I would feel more comfortable in the group I just had than any other group, so our openness to ideas was amazing. Our second positive was our ability to adapt to new challenges. We forgot to divide up who was doing what slide, but we went out of our way to make sure that we knew what was happening. Adaptation is also shown when we realized that we had done either stage 3 or 4 wrong, as we went back and redid it.
Negatives: Like the positives said, we got to pick our groups, which both negatives are related to. The first negative is being off task. I often found myself being off task and goofing around with our group mates. I think I can fix this by making sure I finish my work before I loss interest. The second negative was our time management. We didn't do things when we should have, but did them right before they were due. I can fix this by making a plan for when and how I am going to do something so I don't get side-tracked.
